Art block, art slump--whatever you want to call it--sucks. I've been dealing with a lot of it this year and we're only a couple weeks into it! But it turns out, a lot of us are feeling similarly!
A few days ago, I posted on my Instagram story how I was feeling and explained why I hadn't posted any art in weeks. The replies came flooding in that many of you were going through the same thing. It made me think, "Maybe we all need something simple just to get back into drawing. Something with minimal pressure..." So, I posted a poll and a whopping 98% of you said you would like me to put together a simple prompt list to get back into the swing of drawing this year. Well, this is what this blog post is all about!
I thought long and hard about a prompt list and just wasn't really having any luck. Then it hit me--we don't need a list of prompts. We just one prompt to get us thinking and creating. Below, you will find a reference photo that you are all welcome to use as reference for your drawing (all I ask is that you credit my photography account (@nadiarausaphoto) if you post the reference image with your drawing). You can also use your own reference image if this one doesn't spark any inspiration for you. This "challenge" is quite easy, but I feel like it's fulfilling nonetheless. The great thing is you can do it in an hour or you can spend a day on it--it's really up to you! First step, do a study of said reference photo. Second, abstract/fantasize your study. That's it! I did my study in red pencil and then went over it with graphite and marker to abstract/fantasize it.
I hope you will try this out and have fun with it! If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments, or you're always welcome to email or message me on social media. Don't forget to use the hashtag #artrevive2018 so that we can all see each other's drawings! Click on the image below to go to the Instagram post:
